One of the best Whiskeytown regattas that I've done so far. Nice warm weather, no crazy wind storms or thunder showers in the middle of the night. The water temp was warm enough for a post race swim. The camp ground was not as crowded as usual which made it pretty nice, and their was a huge pile of firewood for our evening festivities.
I'd heard rumors of the whiskeytown sailing clubs plan of improving their race committee work, and it was true. the race committee did a nice job of giving us some good races. The breeze was mostly light but stayed pretty consistant and believe it or not, very few holes and no 180 degree windshifts. We managed to get all four races in and still had the boats back to the dock by 2:00 on Sunday leaving plenty of time for some recreational family sailing (or single handing in Rich's case).
Unfortunately with only four wabbits we had to sail handicap in a division that included a Moore 24, Sonar, and a couple of Catalina or Capri 25's, I'm not exactly sure. We sailed most of the time with big headsails but the wabbits were no match for the Moore 24 which pretty much kick our butts.
I'll definetaly be back next year, and hopefully if we can convince a couple more wabbit's to come it will be just like old times. Well, kind of anyways. I've heard some crazy stories. |
